Fernando Belasteguin, aka "Bela", "The Boss"
Fernando BelasteguÃn, also known as "Bela" or "The Boss," is an Argentine professional padel player widely regarded as the greatest of all time. He holds the record for the most times ranked number one in the world and has won more World Padel Tour titles than any other player in history. Currently, Bela is ranked 18th in the WPT rankings.
Fernando BelasteguÃn was born on May 19, 1979, in the town of Pehuajó, Argentina. He began his journey in padel at just 13 years old. While playing soccer at the Club Atlético Gral facilities in Pehuajó, he discovered padel, a sport that captivated him. He was noticed by Roberto DÃaz, the father of padel players Godo and MatÃas DÃaz, who was also a coach and professional in the sport.
At 40, Fernando BelasteguÃn chose to reinvent his game rather than retire, marking a significant shift after his separation from Pablo Lima. He partnered with young AgustÃn Tapia, switching positions to prolong his career and achieving notable success over three seasons. Bela then teamed up with Sanyo Gutiérrez, sharing successes until an injury sidelined him.
In 2021, amid numerous partner changes in the circuit, Bela saw potential in young Arturo Coello. BelasteguÃn believed that Coello's untapped talent could complement his own, allowing them both to enhance their games. This partnership enabled Bela to continue building on his legendary career, blending his experience with Coello's youthful energy.
